Nel mese di Settembre 2023 la parete E del Grand Flambeau è stata soggetta ad un grosso crollo che ha interessato alcune vie di misto ormai divenute classiche. Nella foto allegata la zona è cerchiata in rosso. Si sconsiglia fortemente la frequentazione della parete fino a stabilizzazione della zona. Sembra che la via “Monia mena” sia stata preservata, da verificare il materiale in posto. La parete N del Grand Flambeau sembra essere più sicura per via della conformazione della parete. Le vie da “Koala Pirla” fino a “La vie en rose” sembrano essere più sicure. Attenderei comunque qualche settimana di freddo prima di frequentare anche questo settore.
Il Grand Flambeau si trova su terreno di alta montagna e come tale richiede una verifica in tempo reale delle condizioni prima di affrontare qualunque itinerario. Non è da considerarsi in alcun modo una falesia d’alta quota. Essendo terreno soggetto a rapida evoluzione verificare sempre il materiale in posto prima dell’utilizzo.
During the month of September 2023 the E face of the Grand Flambeau experienced a big rock fall touching and destroying few mixte classic routes. We highly discourage people from climbing on this sector. In the picture the red area is marking the rock fall area. It seems like that the route “Monia Mena” wasn’t touched, to verify the in situ gear.
The north face of the Grand Flambeau seems to be more safe to climb on as for its different structure. Routes from “Koala Pirla” to “La vie en rose” are for sure a better option. I still would wait few more weeks of colder weather before engaging on any climb.
Grand Flambeau lies on high altitude trad terrain so it is not to be considered as a high altitude crag where to practice mixte safely. Always verify the in situ gear before hanging and evaluate in real time the mountain conditions before committing on the face.
